Not long ago, I happened to be in Kaunas, Lithuania, at the Centrinis
Knygynas book shop, perusing the excellent map selection there. I
encountered a fellow American, probably in his 30s, who was examining a
map of the Baltic region that basically covered from Copenhagen to
Tallinn, Tampere to Warsaw.  In conversation with me, he happened to
point out the Kaliningrad (ex-Kőnigsberg) enclave, in this case, simply
labeled 'Russia'.
"I knew the Soviet Union was broken up," he said in all seriousness,
"but I didn't know that Russia got reduced THAT far!"
