Here are the details:

Location:
City of Santa Monica, California

Position:
GIS Analyst

Salary:
Up to $66,516 annually, depending on qualifications

Benefits:
City paid retirement (PERS), social security, medical, dental, vision,
life insurance; 9/80 work schedule; generous paid leave package

Major duties:
Assists in the design, implementation, and maintenance of the city's GIS
databases; uses structured query language (SQL) to create and define
database tables to store customer-defined data and to perform data
analysis and create queries and reports; uses ArcInfo and ArcView to
perform spatial data analysis; analyzes customers' GIS data requirements;
creates custom GIS applications using ArcInfo, ArcView, and development
tools such as Visual Basic, C++, PowerBuilder, or Delphi, and world wide
web (WWW) development tools; develops internet GIS applications using
MapObjects; digitizes customer supplied information; trains and assists
system users in new and existing GIS applications; assists GIS customers
with map production and with analysis of spatial and database
information; performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, abilities, and skills:
Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), ArcInfo, ArcView,
MapObjects, AML, and Avenue; development tools such as Visual Basic,
C++, or PowerBuilder; MS DOS, Microsoft Windows, Unix, Novell Netware,
and RDBMS; world wide web development languages such as HTML and CGI.

Ability to understand customer stated requirement questions and problems
and translate into GIS and DBMS terms and actions; install and maintain
software systems; read and comprehend technical information; document
technical information in writing; communicate effectively with the public
and with city employees; use independent judgment and initiative in
making recommendations regarding GIS applications; complete assignments
in a timely manner.

Skill in software system configuration, maintenance and problem
resolution; installing software components and editing configuration
data files to implement client server systems; managing application and
customer file systems and directories; production of customized ArcView
projects, views, and layouts; analyzing spatial data by linking ArcView
tables and creating ArcView queries; creating printed maps from
ArcView; database design and development; SQL operation; report design
and development; query design and optimization; software analysis and
programming; training system users in GIS applications; establishing
and maintaining effective working relationships with city employees
and the public.

Licenses:
Possession of a valid Class C drivers license

Education, training, and experience:
A Bachelors degree in Geography or Computer Science (Masters degree
a BIG plus), including course work in GIS, and 3+ years of work
experience designing, implementing, and maintaining GIS databases.
Experience managing projects and staff a plus.
