Jim-

The Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC) at the Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESEN) has a collection of gridded population sets that may suit your student's purposes. The datasets, as well as descriptions about how they were created, can be found here:

http://sedac.ciesin.columbia.edu/data/collection/gpw-v3/sets/browse

In addition, World Pop provides "high resolution contemporary data on human population":

http://www.worldpop.org.uk/data/data_sources/

They have country-level, 100 meter resolution datasets available for download under the "Population" link. The data have been adjusted somewhat to match UN estimates.

Good luck!

Philip

Hello All,

I have a request from a grad student who is modeling malaria risk in Tanzania based on data collected in a national survey in 2011-12. She knows about the LandScan Global data satellite images and estimated population densities from the Oakridge National Laboratories, sold through Eastview She can't afford Eastview's rates for this data (hello, Eastview people), so I offered to ask you guys if there any other resources I could point her toward.

Thank you!

Jim
