Wendy Romney Hassibe died March 11, 1999 in Salt Lake City.
Western Association of Map Libraries members will remember her
as the host of the Fall 1993 meeting in Salt Lake City. Wendy spent
her professional life with the U.S. Geological Survey. She ran what
would become the Earth Sciences Information Center in Salt Lake City
and later oversaw all ESIC offices from USGS headquarters in Reston.
A particular focus of her efforts in the 1990s was the
re-engineering of USGS services as part of Vice President Gore's
National Performace Review and Reinventing Initiative. She retired
from USGS Denver in the fall of 1998 and had returned to Salt Lake
City. We will remember her positive attitude, organizational
abilities, and knowledge of the Survey.
