Subject: NYCMap:GIS map of NYC--read all about it

The current issue of the New Yorker magazine, Nov. 6, 2000 has a very
clear discussion of the NYC GIS map which has been in the works for a
decade, created by the cooperative efforts of various City departments
over the last decade. Soon it is to be released, in some form anyway,
on CDroms and on the Net? [security issues arise...]. So watch for
     announcements on that.

I think the article nicely makes the case, even for antiquarian types,
for the value of the new mapping and GIS.
