I just received this sumptuous new book on Russian cartography:

_Russia in Maps: a history of the geographical study and
cartography of the country_, by Alexei Postnikov. Moscow: Nash
Dom - L'Age d'Homme, 1996. 192 p. ISBN 5-89136-001-2.

Lavishly produced, full of excellent color reproductions.
The book was printed in France and is available in English.
Really a first-rate production.

It is part of a series "Russia's Cultural Heritage," which is
a joint publishing project between the Russian State Library
and the United Export-Import Bank (Unexim Bank).

Dr. Postnikov, now the Deputy Director of the Institute of the
History of Science and Technology, Russian Academy of
Sciences, is a prominent expert on the history of Russian
Cartography.
