Folks:

Having lost the thread of e-mails on three lists I cannot recall if this
specific query has progressed. For what it may be worth, GSGS =
'Caucasia 1:210 000' of 1941 on 52 sheets. There is a combined
index/key diagram to series GSGS 4213 [in black] with GSGS 4196 [in red]
entitled 'Caucasia Index No.70' as 'O.R. No.5526AB [where 'A' is printed
in black, 'B' in red] ; 18 M.R.S./45 ([London :] War Office, 1941). A
marked-up (or disfigured!) example is in RGS-IBG's Map Room collection
of heavy, loose-leaf, binders; but I suspect a 'clean' copy is behind
the scenes with my ex-colleague, Map Librarian Mr David McNeill.

Also, if of interest, the Society has an unmarked index (received 1916)
to the Russian 5-Verst' 59-sheet [I think] series of same area, but with
slightly differing sheet lines.

Francis Herbert (ex-Curator of Maps, RGS-IBG)

What is GSGS 4213? What does it cover geographically?

Folks, we have a rather extensive collection of AMS & GSGS charts, but
no index for GSGS 4213 and we have recently received a collection. Does
anyone have an index they would copy, digital or print - a clear Xerox
might be fine - and send to me snail or email?

Has anyone put these indexes on the web?

Thank you very much!
