Subject: atlas preservation grants

I want to get a few Illinois state atlases preserved and, at the moment,
our managers want me to pursue the possibility of grant money to
deacidify, encapsulate and re-bind the atlases. Has any non-academic
library asked for and received grant money for atlas preservation, and
if so, which organization did you apply to? NEH has preservation money
but only for academic libraries. The American Association for State &
Local History's web site talks about preservation but they seem to mean
preserving buildings.
Our grant writer is working on researching this and I've searched the
web for atlas preservation grants but am not coming up with anything
suitable. I don't want to assess, or train, digitize, or anything else.
I just want money to do the preservation work on the original atlas
itself. Any ideas? Reply to MAPS-L or me personally at the e-mail
address below.

Thanks, Arlyn
