I just noticed this morning in Google Maps a "New!” button which allows
you to enable several functionalities described as "experimental
features that aren't quite ready for primetime. They may change, break
or disappear at any time."

One is LatLng Tooltip which will cause your cursor to sprout a small
yellow box containing a running lat/long.

Another is Drag n Zoom, which puts a small icon below the scale tool and
allows you to draw a zoom-to box. It disappeared at one point during my
fiddling but reappeared when I refreshed the screen.
