Looking for a way to compute the distance between two points given the Lat. &
Lon.

In the United States Power Squadron we teach a number of ways to compute this
distance.
     * For short distances under 200 nm it's called 'plane sailing'.
     * For distances between 200 < 800 nm it's called 'mid-latitude sailing'.
     * For distances > 800 nm it's called 'mercator sailing'.

and the most accurate method is called 'great-circle sailing'.
