attend!!

The New York Public Library Mercator Society cordially invites you to a
reception and presentation:

"The Mannahatta Project: an inquiry into historical maps and the untold
ecology of the world's greatest city"

The British Headquarters Map, ca. 1783, provides an unprecedented and
underappreciated view of the landscape of Manhattan Island
prior to modern development.

Dr. Eric W. Sanderson of New York's own Wildlife Conservation Society, is
using the British Headquarters Map to project back
to the ecology of Manhattan as Henry hudson discovered it in 1609, by
applying modern techniques from computer science, ecology and geography.
