If I might be able to put my own oar in this discussion. On its face, $75
per year for 'depository' items from a national mapping agency sounds like
a good deal. As someone not currently participating, that sounds pretty
good; it makes me consider my institution participating in it. However,
if the comments comparing map production with distribution in the service
are true, those few maps that one receives are pretty expensive at $75 per
annum, especially when most of them are indexes or catalogs of available
material! $75 each year for indexes, and an occasional thematic map on a
parliamentary election, C'est tres ch`ere, n'est-ce pas?

My other comment is that in the meantime, while these issues are being
discussed, I would like to obtain (free if possible, or a web site)
information about current maps, their scales and prices. I may need to
purchase some 1:250,000 maps.
