The University of Idaho (UI) seeks a visionary and creative Library Dean
to join the UI administrative team. The Library Dean is responsible for:
organizational leadership and direction of the information and learning
resources of the University of Idaho Library and related access to those
resources for students, staff, faculty, and clients including those at
the Boise, Coeur d’Alene and Idaho Falls Centers, state-wide extension
education, and the public at large. The Dean is responsible for:
providing sound administrative leadership in order to provide exemplary
library services in support of the University’s strategic plan;
promoting and developing relationships between the library and other
units in the University; participating in the planning activities of the
University with special attention to areas that have library resource
and service implications; working closely with academic deans, center
leadership, and offices to plan and coordinate strategies that emphasize
the University’s strengths and meet long-term goals. The Library Dean
would be eligible for associate or full professorial rank in a tenure
track position. The Library Dean reports to the Provost and Executive
Vice President and is a member of the Provost Council.

Since 1889, UI has served the state and surrounding region as a leading
doctoral/research extensive land-grant university. UI represents a key
link in the chain of educational institutions governed by the Idaho
State Board of Education; this network of interdependent organizations
serves Idaho students from kindergarten through doctoral-level
instruction. UI’s 874 faculty members and 1,517 staff members together
serve approximately 13,000 students from around the world, many of whom
come from Idaho and the Pacific Northwest region. UI offers degree
programs in nine colleges: Agricultural and Life Sciences; Art and
Architecture; Business and Economics; Education; Engineering; Law;
Letters, Arts and Social Sciences; Natural Resources; and Science, as
well as the Graduate School and Multidisciplinary Programs.

*_Required Minimum Qualifications_*_: _

Masters degree in Library Science from an American Library Association
(ALA)-accredited institution and eligible to be considered for
professorial rank and tenure; University criteria for professorial rank
is doctorate degree or second subject Masters degree. Scholarly and
professional achievement appropriate to the rank of a tenured library
faculty member.

Minimum of 8 years of professional library experience, becoming
progressively more responsible with at least 5 years administrative
management.

Successful completion of a background check.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in:

§ library and University operations, policies and procedures, preferably
in a multifaceted University environment

§ innovative leadership with strong customer service philosophy and
proven leadership skills

§ information technology including computer hardware, software and
systems applications within an integrated library system and working
knowledge of emerging technologies

§ participatory management including budgeting and financial planning,
strategic and tactical planning, human relations, problem solving and
team building

§ effective library consortium relationships

§ fund raising and grantsmanship
