What, exactly, does it mean today when an AMS index (from the late
1960's) says a sheet is
"available" (i.e., marked on the index map in green)? The area was
mapped? Mapped and printed?
Mapped, printed and for sale?

Conversely, what of maps *not* marked as available? Might they exist
now, if not when the index was
published?

FWIW, A patron would like to get NH 45-15 from series L500 (China
1:250,000), but the index
indicates that it's not available. End of story?
