                     POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
 
 
      The School of Marine Science, College of William and Mary is
seeking a GIS specialist to provide support for the Submerged
Aquatic Vegetation research program.  Duties include designing,
writing, and troubleshooting programs to maintain and analyze the
SAV research databases, writing documentation, training researchers
and performing other related duties as required.
 
 
      Minimum Qualifications -  Graduation from a college or
university, or an associate degree in information systems required.
Significant programming experience and a working knowledge of
systems analysis and design concepts required.  Proficiency in at
least one high level programming language, such as fortran or c
required.  Ability to communicate orally and in writing with users
and other information management personnel required.  Working
knowledge and proficiency in Arc/Info GIS software and SAS
statistical software preferred.  Degree in ecology, planning,
resource management, landscape ecology or one of the physical or
natural sciences desired.  Equivalent directly related working
experience will be considered as a substitute for the education
requirements.
 
 
      Entry Salary - $28,652.  Starting salary may be higher
depending on experience and qualifications.  This is a classified
restricted position ending May 15, 1995, with opportunity for
reappointment.  Class maximum salary is $43,747.
