This message is sent on behalf of the Conference Programme Committee. 
Apologies for cross posting.

The call for contributions is now open for the 2017 British Cartographic 
Society and Society of Cartographers’ joint conference ‘Maps for 
Changing Reality’, which will take place at the Redworth Hall Hotel, 
County Durham from 5th to 7th September.

Proposals are requested by Wednesday 15th March 2017

We invite submissions for papers within the main conference sessions and 
are looking for contributions to fit within the following themes in 
particular:

•	3D Mapping
•	Augmented & Virtual Reality
•	Web Mapping
•	Current Affairs
•	Topographic Mapping
•	Open Data
•	Map Design
•	Data Visualization
•	Mapping our Planet
•	Historical Mapping
•	Fantasy Maps
•	Disaster Mapping

To contribute a paper to Maps for Changing Reality, please complete the 
online form at 
http://www.cartography.org.uk/product/maps-for-changing-reality/ or 
www.soc.org.uk/2017/01/13/1966/ *by Wednesday 15th March 2017*.

Review Criteria
Papers should aim to be presented in 25 minutes (plus 5 minutes for 
questions) and all proposals will be evaluated according to the 
following criteria:
•	the clarity of the proposal and its fit within the conference themes;
•	the originality/innovation of the topic and/or the project and its 
approach;
•	the potential implications for the wider cartography community; and
•	the anticipated interest in the subject matter.


Successful applicants will be notified by Monday 3rd April. Proposals 
for successful applications will be put on the conference website prior 
to the event. These will include the abstract, keywords and outline, 
plus any references deemed appropriate.
