Hello,

This is a reminder that the NEMO Map Design Competition deadline is
quickly approaching. The submission deadline is April 15, 2007.

The competition is open to all mapmakers living in one of the following
states: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island,
Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. The maps
must have been completed between June 1, 2006, and April 15, 2007. The
competition has been established both to honor mapmakers in the
Northeast and to promote map making and best practices. Categories have
been established to honor professional and amateur mapmakers and those
in high school, undergraduate, and graduate programs. Groups composed
of up to four students may submit collaborative projects. Winning maps
will be displayed on the NEMO Web site (www.northeastmap.org
<http://www.northeastmap.org/>). As anticipated, winners will receive
awards presented at the NEMO Annual Meeting to be held in New York City,
June 7-8, 2007 (check the Web site for updates). Judging will be based
on sound cartographic guidelines. Data presentation and the relevance
of the data to problem solving will be considered heavily. Judging will
focus on the appropriate use of technology and originality, as well.
Additional criteria are listed in the competition document on the NEMO
Web site.

Please visit the site to view the NEMO Map Design Competition
information. Remember, the submission deadline is April 15, 2007. If
you have any questions regarding the competition, please email David
Bertuca, Map Librarian at the University at Buffalo, at

Thank you,

Sarah Stanwicks
