Ball State University Libraries, Muncie, Indiana, has a need for
different areas of cataloging expertise including a concentration in
maps for a person with appropriate experience and/or interest.

CATALOGING SERVICES LIBRARIAN

Responsibilities: cataloging library materials using AACR2rev, MARC
formats and
Library of Congress subject headings and rule interpretations for one or
more of the
following: books, serials, audiovisuals, maps, and/or electronic media;
classify
library materials using LC classification or other systems as specified
by local
practice; create/update authority records for the Libraries' online
automated
authority file; perform database maintenance or enrichment functions as
required;
supervise and/or train unit personnel as warranted; participate in the
development,
documentation, and evaluation of unit policies and procedures.

Minimum qualifications: MLS degree from ALA accredited program;
knowledge of
MARC formats, AACR2rev, and LC subject headings and classification;
knowledge
of automated cataloging, using a national bibliographic utility such as
OCLC or
RLIN; effective communication skills and ability to work constructively
with
colleagues.

Preferred qualifications: cataloging experience in an academic library;
supervisory ability/experience; experience with an automated library
system such as
NOTIS or Sirsi; knowledge of emerging technologies, especially the
automation of
library technical services functions; ability to work with a variety of
foreign
languages; additional advanced degrees. Fiscal year (12 months)
appointment. Rank
and status dependent on qualifications and interest. Salary negotiable
from a
minimum of $29,000 commensurate with qualifications.
