A couple of towns on Tausk Bay (also known as Tauiskaya Bay): Tausk and Arman
are very close to the present location of Magadan on my 1889 Encyclopedia
Britannica map.
 
The oblast, according to Webster's New Geographical Dictionary, was formed in
1953.
