*...* Mankato State University. Cords-Swanson earned a master's degree
in geography from Mankato State University. The geography department
offered cartography courses which she took to gain map-making skills.
She was a cartographic consultant for many years and was a geography
teacher at the university for 16 years.

"Over the years, I have worked in several art mediums, including pen and
ink, reprographics, printmaking, reactive metals, wood and fibers,"
Cords-Swanson said. "Now I am pairing my academic background as a
cartogapher with my skills as a fiber artist. The result is a series of
quilted maps which I refer to as the Cartographer's Art."
