GIS Application Engineer II, Central Region         #8017Geoweb
 
AUTODESK, the leader in design and animation software for the PC, develops,
sells and supports products for CAD, GIS, Virtual Reality, and Multimedia
applications running on PC's and Workstations. Our GIS software, Autodesk World,
MapGuide, and AutoCAD Map, are experiencing extremely rapid sales growth.
 
The company is headquartered in Marin County, 12 miles north of San Francisco,
within easy commuting distance of many Bay Area communities. Relocation
assistance may be available where needed.
 
LOCATION: Chicago, IL
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
7 As an Application Engineer this position will focus on pre-sales
technical support. Pre sales efforts will primarily be directed at major
accounts and authorized channel partners along with secondary opportunities in
specified Autodesk sales channels (unique application reseller, OEM, federal,
state & local governments, and educational institutions).
 
7 Provide direct technical support for market development events such
as dealer seminars, major account technology days, regional trade shows and
user group participation.
 
7 Develop and coordinate the technical content and presentation
materials for Western Region-dealer seminars, technology days, corporate
executive briefings, job fairs and hospitality suites.
 
7 Establish a professional working relationship with select authorized
resellers in order to enhance their technical expertise with Autodesk
GIS and Mapping products.
 
7 Remain up-to-date with in-depth technical knowledge of the Autodesk
GIS and mapping line of products. This includes, but is not limited to,
AutoCAD, AutoCAD MAP and the MapGuide product family.
 
7 Work with authorized resellers, unique application resellers and OEM
customers, as well as selected developers, to strengthen their
presentation capabilities and technical proficiency with Autodesk GIS and
mapping products. This may include conducting field training events and
technical briefing sessions as well as one-on-one classes for both
authorized dealers and major account customers.
 
7 Maintain an advanced level of knowledge on the Windows Operating
System software as well as presentation software, Internet access and
Internet publishing software.
 
7 Maintain a high level of awareness about computer hardware
developments and current computer operating systems in order to provide
customers, channel partners and internal colleagues with current technical
information.
 
7 Assist other members of the Central Region Sales and Application
Engineer teams in enhancing their product demonstration, sales
presentations and public speaking skills as well as their technical
understanding of future Autodesk products. Create scripted presentations
and product demonstrations for use in the Autodesk GIS and Mapping vertical
markets.
 
7 Develop and periodically update a series of feature-specific
product demonstrations that promote the competitive advantages of
Autodesk GIS and mapping products for use in pre-sales situations.
 
7 Maintain a high level of awareness of computer graphics industry
news, GIS and mapping competitive products and technical developments
that may effect Autodesk GIS sales efforts.
 
REQUIREMENTS:
 
7 Bachelor of Science Degree or equivalent.
 
7 At least 3 years experience in a GIS or mapping production environment.
Working knowledge of at least one major GIS-based software package.
 
7 Technical expertise in , Windows, Windows 95 or Windows NT required.
Some familiarity with the DOS operating system is a plus. Experience
with ESRI, MapInfo or Smallworld software products a definite plus.
A working knowledge of AutoCAD is also desirable.
 
7 Must be able to travel up to 50 to 75% time, primarily in the Central
United States. Valid drivers license is required.
 
7 Excellent technical writing, public speaking and presentation skills
required.
