Anne,

Good luck in finding ANY comparatively recent coastal sheets of India on that large a scale. They have long been unavailable for 'security reasons' (due to Indo-Pak and Sino-Indian wars, basically).

Smaller scale topos from the Raj Era (pre-1947) are superb, despite their age. UBC in Vancouver has as good a selection as I've seen in the Northwest. Not sure of their Tamilnadu coverage, though.

Best,

Brian

On behalf of a faculty researcher I am seeking coastal topographic mapping
of India at 1:50,000. We have an incomplete 1:50,000 set published by the
Survey of India India but have none of the coastal sheets.

I'm wondering if these sheets are available somewhere else and if so, what
options there might be for loan or copying.

Area of interest is the southeast coast between 14 and 10 degrees latitude
at 80 degrees longitude (roughly Madras/Chennai south to
Karaikal/Pondicherry). The numbering scheme on the index map indicates:

66 A-D (sheet numbers 1-8)
58 M-O (sheet numbers 9-16)

Thank you very much.
