We have recently scanned, georeferenced and made available a couple of
1940s / 1950s Ordnance Survey medium-scale series of Great Britain that
may be of interest:

* Ordnance Survey 1:63,360 Seventh Series, 1952-1961 - 190 sheets

Home page: http://maps.nls.uk/os/one-inch-seventh-series/index.html

The series may also be searched through a graphic index at:
http://geo.nls.uk/search/ and as a georeferenced mosaic at:
http://geo.nls.uk/search/mosaic/

WMS address:
http://geo.nls.uk/cgi-bin/mapserv.exe?map=e:/mapdata2/os/seventh/mapserv
er.map&
TMS address: http://geo.nls.uk/mapdata2/os/seventh/{zoom}/{x}/{-y}.png

* Ordnance Survey 1:25,000 Provisional / First series, 1937-1961 - 2027
sheets

Home page: http://maps.nls.uk/os/25k-gb-1937-61/index.html

The series may be searched through a graphic index at:
http://geo.nls.uk/search/ and as a georeferenced mosaic at:
http://geo.nls.uk/search/mosaic/

WMS address:
http://geo.nls.uk/cgi-bin/mapserv.exe?map=e:/mapdata2/os/25000/mapserver
.map&
TMS address: http://geo.nls.uk/mapdata2/os/25000/{zoom}/{x}/{-y}.png

Those using these layers as a WMS or TMS are asked to credit NLS in any
public applications displaying these layers.

And just to say thanks to Wilbourn Associates for funding the work, to
Klokan Technologies' MapTiler for creating the georeferenced tilesets,
Roger Hellyer and Richard Oliver's ever useful cartobibliographies and
accompanying research, and to the Royal Geographical Society for a scan
of SU87...
