In follow-up to Joe's response,

If your patron would like the GTOP030 image from USGS at a higher
resolution, they can download it here
http://edc.usgs.gov/products/elevation/gtopo30/e060n40.html.

Hope you find something that works for him!

Hi,

GTOPO30 from the USGS may be a start
http://edc.usgs.gov/products/elevation/gtopo30/e060n40_tile.html
But it may also be too coarse for this use.

The SRTM Shuttle radar project may have more resolution, but the files
have to be imported and manipulated using GIS or Image processing
software. ftp://e0srp01u.ecs.nasa.gov/srtm/

Either of these are public domain from nasa and usgs, but the user
should verify the copyright issues for publication.

Hope these help.

Joe

Hello -
We have a patron who is looking for a digital image for a book he is
publishing. He would like a map of southern India and Sri Lanka that
only
shows shaded relief (mountains and rivers obvious), with good contrast,
since the image is to be published in grayscale. For an example, he
showed
us a basic CIA shaded relief map, but did not want to fool with removing
features and words.

If anyone knows of a particular product or publication that fits the
bill,
please let me know. It can be a software package - the patron is
willing to
purchase something.

Thanks,

Naomi Heiser
