Contrary to the latest message about Sanborn Preservation; not
everyone's are not like those at Milwualkee Public Lib. Depending on
the source of the maps you can have maps with no paste on information or
that are backed. The Library of Congress gave their triplicate copies
to a library or historical society in each state. These have the
copyright registration stamp and number but no paste ons. As Chris
said these were individual sheets that occassionally were bound in a
volume but not backed with another.

Those that came from the commercial firms and local agencies are the
ones that usually had new information pasted on as it was received.
However, I have only seen a few Sunburns that were backed and made into
a mapsheet with two sides. These were in a different library and were
in bad shape. The Preservationist said it could do great damage to the
maps to try and remove the backing. If an attempt is to be made it
should be done only by a professional with a great deal of experience.
Unfortunately we never learned of anyone who was capbable of doing it.

Sorry I do not have more positive information.
