The Geography and Map Libraries Section in association with the Science
and Technology Libraries Section and the Division of Special Libraries
invites the submission of proposals for papers on the theme Cultural
Heritage Preserved: The Role of Digital Maps to be presented at a
three-hour session.  The session will be held at the World Library and
Information Congress: 75^th IFLA General Conference and Council in
Milan, Italy, 23-27 August 2009.



The purpose of this session is twofold: 1) to introduce the audience to
the variety of digital map collections that are already available online
or in progress, and 2) to address the technical issues that surround
getting maps and images scanned and available.  Papers may address such
issues as the purpose of the collection, content and size of the
collection, bibliographic information included, search capabilities,
navigation tools, zoom capabilities, scanning issues, digitization
issues, software and hardware needs, maintenance requirements, cost,
staff requirements, or similar topics.

The deadline for submitting a detailed *abstract* (maximum 500 words) of
the proposed paper is

The abstract should include the title of the proposed paper; outline of
the presentation; name, position, and employer of presenter(s); e-mail

The paper must be an original submission that has not been published
elsewhere.



The paper should not exceed 5,000 words (20 pages maximum, double
spaced), include an abstract, and be in English (or with an English
translation attached).



The full paper is due *15 May 2009**.*



The presentation should be a summary of the paper and should not *exceed
twenty minutes* with an additional ten minutes for questions and answers.



At least one of the authors should be present to deliver the paper,
preferably in English.
