The History of Cartography Project composed a homepage for the World Wide Web
in May of 1994. It is a test project -- an experiment in HTML authoring and
in-line imaging of several full-color maps. The page is not yet linked to
the wider Web, nor does it contain internal or external hyperlinks to other
relevant Project or Internet resources. It has not yet been formally announced
or publicized on NCSA's "What's New" page or other forums, and the URL has been
distributed on a very limited basis.

However, the time has come to re-evaluate this project and begin to enhance
and improve the site. I would appreciate your help in doing so. Those
interested members of MAPHIST and MAPS-L with access to a Web browser are
invited to visit the Project homepage and send me their comments accordingly.

Please send comments to me at [log in to unmask], rather than the
personal address given in the homepage.

Many thanks in advance,
