A Call for Papers
Railroads and Dinosaurs in the American West
University of Wyoming Geological Museum and American Heritage Center
February 20-21, 2006

The American Heritage Center, a manuscript repository at the University of
Wyoming, in cooperation with the UW Geological Museum, will host the
Center’s Annual Symposium February 20-21, 2006. The theme of the
conference will be the discoveries of dinosaurs associated with the opening
of the West, as a result of the Union Pacific Railroad.

The symposium’s program committee requests proposals for papers and
sessions which explore the many aspects of dinosaur collecting and railroad
development in the Rocky Mountain West. Areas of inquiry could include the
opening of the West related to the building of the Union Pacific Railroad,
railroad construction, U.P. railroad employees, U.P. railroad stations in
Wyoming, dinosaur discoveries along the railroad, exploration and surveys
for the U.P. route, history of scientific thought regarding dinosaurs
during the late 1800s, Wyoming dinosaur discoveries in the late 1800s and
early 1900s, and Como Bluff.

For papers and panels please submit an abstract between 100 and 500 words.
Include the title of the presentation, the full name of the presenters,
institutional affiliations, mailing addresses, telephone and fax numbers,
e-mail addresses, and any special requirements such as slide projectors,
screen, etc. The program committee will select the papers and all
selections will be final. Participants will be notified by September 10,
2005. An abstract form is available at
