At Miami University (Ohio), we have Google Earth on our public PCs
(version 5.0 at this point) and Macintoshes (version 6.0). We have had
it on public computers for a long time. I have not been made aware of
security or other usage issues. Obviously, there are limits it the
created files that can be made, but most users are needing to view
scenes, for the most part. Things can be saved to the computer, that
are accessible until logoff and the next user logs on. Download of an
application is prevented by the system, without an administrative
override. That applies to all applications that a user would want to
add her- or himself. The available applications, viewers, software are
installed via the network by our systems support staff.

Howdy,

Does anyone have Google Earth loaded on their public machines?

Google Earth is a marvelous thing, but it is irrelevant when I am doing
reference work because the users don't have access to it on the public
machines. I want to convince my computer folks that Google Earth should
be installed on a public machine--but they are very concerned about
security, etc.

If you have Google Earth on your public machines, how did you convince
your computer folks to allow this?

How locked down is it? -- can you upload files to "Temporary Places"?
Can you move those to "My Places"? Can you lock down "My Places"?

What problems has Google Earth caused vis-a-vissecurity, etc.?

thanks in advance,
