The following info is UCSD-specific but Map Ref gopher users may
find it a good prompt sheet for systematic access to Federal
          stuff on the Internet. LC

We seem to be having a problem at the Reference Desk with
students asking to use a micro collection of US Supreme
Court cases--arranged by docket number. We don't own this

          ..................................

There is on Infopath a way to get Supreme Court cases from the 1989
term forward, by docket number. It's through LC's MARVEL
system (Elliot showed me how to get there). What years are
these students needing? If this Infopath option will help,
I could post a note describing how to get there on Infopath.

FROM ELLIOT: The current, intricate route to Supreme Court
Cases through InfoPath (through the 1992-93 season only, at
the moment -- latest is July 1993), goes down through the
          following menu levels:

          World
            Miscellaneous Special Topics
              Bibliographic Databases
                Library of Congress/MARVEL
                  Federal Government Information
                    Federal Government Resources
                      Information By Agency
                        Judiciary

You will then get the following menu:

Internet Gopher Information Client 2.0 pl5

                                   Judiciary

      1. About Supreme Court Information on the Internet.
      2. Supreme Court Decisions 1989 Term/

      8. Supreme Court Orders (List).
      9. Supreme Court Justices.
      10. Supreme Court Decisions (Search) <?>
      11. United States Judges (Search) <?>

The Decisions search actually works, with a crude boolean
ability. Television and Violence, for example, will bring
up all cases -- full text -- mentioning both terms somewhere
in the decision, and will even highlight the words as you
          page through.

I might put the "By Agency" menu on the Reference Desk GORT
gopher account that I am developing, just as a temporary
means of getting at some of these government sources without
having to wander too far down.

Here are the agencies represented in the LC Menu By Agency:
