Subject: cartography/visualization position at Cal State Long Beach

Dear colleagues,
The Department of Geography at California State University, Long
Beach, is seeking an assistant professor in
cartography/geovisualization. We have a very strong program in the
geospatial techniques (GIS, remote sensing, stats, and cartography) but
we need someone who can teach map design and data visualization in the
graphic design and communication/spatial cognition sense. We would like
to acquire someone who can teach web/interactive mapping/GIS, and
familiarity with critical cartography would be a plus.
Please share this notice with any recent Ph.D.s or ABDs who will have
their degrees in hand no later than this summer. The full position
description and application procedure is at
http://www.csulb.edu/geography/cartography.html . More information
about Geography at CSULB can be found at http://www.csulb.edu/geography/ .
This is a terrific department, with a real esprit de corps, very
active (often collaborative) research culture, energetic student club,
and frequent involvement of students (both undergraduate and graduate)
in faculty research. The campus is the most highly sought after of the
23 campus CSU system. The campus is situated in a highly livable
coastal community, about one mile from the beach.
Screening may begin as early as the beginning of December.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
