        MAPS-L FOLK:

Dave Gomberg's recent message about the "1905 telephone analogy" is
right on target. Should a group of people (even librarians with
the latest technological toys at their disposal) be "held back"
because the masses "out there" don't (or can't) access STUFF. It
is not the problem of the people who HAVE vs the HAVE-NOTS, it is
simply a matter of access to new technology. It may be a long time
before the highlands of New Guinea get access to the INTERNET,
maybe - but if the ones with the "toys" don't use them the
highlanders may never hear about them.
