The Miami University Libraries, Oxford, Ohio, are looking for three
energetic and creative librarians with a strong interest in providing
excellent public services for the positions described below. The
minimum salary for each position is $30,500, and is negotiable,
depending upon experience and qualifications. ALA accredited graduate

1.) Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Librarian
Responsibilities: This new position will report to the Head,
Information Services. GIS Librarian responsibilities include, but are
not limited to, provision of leadership for library-wide, GIS
technology-based public services initiatives and projects;
consultation, training and creation of informational materials for
staff and users of GIS tools; subject specialist services for GIS,
including promotions and outreach of GIS to the university community;
participation in the credit and non-credit instruction program of the
libraries as an instructor.
This position requires a person who is an independent learner, who is
flexible, and who can work both independently and in cooperation with
colleagues and librarians. A strong public services orientation is
essential.
2.) Electronic Information Services (EIS) Librarian
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Head, Information Services, EIS
librarian responsibilities include, but are not limited to, leadership
for library-wide, technology-based public services initiatives and
projects; research, design and development of library-wide information
systems including Internet and World Wide Web services; participation
in the credit and non-credit instruction program of the libraries as
an instructor; participation in the collaborative process developing
and maintaining the Libraries' web system, MiamiLINK.
This position requires a person who has the initiative to investigate
technical developments and an interest in applying developments to
library services; strong knowledge of web technologies including HTML,
authoring tools, and emerging trends such as XML; strong public
services orientation.
3.) Science Librarian
Responsibilities: This position reports to the Head, Science Library.
Science Librarian duties include, but are not limited to, reference
consultation in library and to remote users; instructional design and
teaching of credit and non-credit classes; collection development and
management in assigned areas in the biological sciences; development
and evaluation of electronic resources, including World Wide Web
pages.
This position requires a person with initiative and the ability to
work cooperatively in a team environment; knowledge of electronic
reference resources; background or experience in the biological
sciences and a strong public service orientation.

Miami University, a selective institution, nationally ranked, with a
strong commitment to liberal education, is located in Oxford, Ohio,
about 30 miles northwest of Cincinnati. The University Libraries
include a central Library and branch libraries in Science, Music,
Art/Architecture, and the Southwest Ohio Regional Depository. A
founding member of OCLC, OhioLINK, and CNI, the library system is
dynamic, flexible, user-centered, and technologically advanced. The
University Libraries contain over 2 million volumes, have an extensive
collection of government documents and microforms, and subscribe to
over 10,000 serials and 75 electronic databases available via
MiamiLINK, the library web system. They serve 850 teaching and
research faculty, 16,000 undergraduate and 1,000 graduate students.
The Libraries have 36 professional and 55 support staff.
