Hi!
Thanks to all of the people who responded - I especially appreciated
comments from actual map users. Everyone's opinions were very useful.

Just one other comment, our preservation librarian commented that the
thickness of materials to be placed in the back of a book should be no
more of an 1/8th of an inch when folded (so there is not too much stress
on the binding) - and if the thickness is greater than an 1/8th of an
inch then a separate portfolio should be created (if there isn't one
already) for the maps. The option is that you could either create a
portfolio for the additional maps, keep the additional maps in the map
collection, keep all maps in the map collection, or keep maps
that fit into the back of the book on the shelf and for those sets that
are too thick/large keep them in the map collection. I think in the case
of sets of maps with books, that the sets should be kept together -
either on the shelf or in the stacks - after reading everyone's comments
I feel keeping the map(s) in the map collection is probably the best
option, although I can see the pros and cons of all the options.

Well, that was a rather longwinded thank you!

Wendy
