Subject: WAML Spring Meeting in Long Beach
 
The Western Association of Map Libraries Spring Meeting will be held at
Cal State Long Beach in the University Library on April 29-30, 1999.
This meeting will include the following speakers. Judith Tyner,
Professor of Geography at CSULB will present the findings of her
research on "Silk Embroidered Globes;" Professors Eugene Turner and
James Allen of Cal State Northridge's Geography Department will discuss
the creation of their atlas "The Ethnic Quilt: Population Diversity in
Southern California;" Leta Hunt, Project Librarian for USC will discuss
current developments in "Project ISLA (Information System for Los
Angeles);" Donald J. Waldie, a writer and Information Officer for the
City of Lakewood read from his critically acclaimed book "Holy Land: A
Suburban Memoir" and Marie Thibeault, Associate Professor of Art at
CSULB will show us her "Cartographic Inspirations for Artistic
Expression."  We will also have membership forums on "Cartographic
Collections and Libraries" and "GIS in Cartographic Collections: How Are
We Doing?".  There will be a Thursday night banquet at a nearby
restaurant. Meetings will run 1:30-5:00 p.m. on April 29 and from
8:30-5:00 p.m. on April 30. WAML will offer an optional Saturday field
trip (May 1), carpooling to West Los Angeles for a guided architectural
tour of the Getty Center.
 
Registration for the conference is $25.  Thursday night banquet is $25.
Field trip is free.
 
Registration packets are being mailed out to WAML members.  If you are
