Given David Allen's passing reference to it, the larger discussion about map
scanning on MAPHIST and MAPS-L, and Susan Klimley's remarks about on-screen
analysis of digitized maps, it seems an ideal time to reiterate the importance
of the Oversized Image Project at Columbia University. I learned of it in May
and was informed recently by Ms. Klimley that the final project report has just
been linked to the Web site.

The URL is http://www.cc.columbia.edu/imaging/html/largemaps/oversized.html

I encourage everyone interested in the challenges of capturing, transmitting,
and viewing digitized maps to examine this valuable contribution.
