Position Description:
 
GIS DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR
 
The Forsyth County Information Technology, GIS Section is building
information systems to support the countywide GIS system.
 These systems, and their information, will be Responsible for
innovating
and maintaining departmental database and systems,
as well as responding to inquiries regarding products and technical
issues.
Recommending corrective action or solutions, gathering information for
customer, and creating reports.
Responsible for the analysis of requested software modifications and
designs, development of database stored procedures,
 screening interfaces and other coding, the design, documentation,
development and implementation of software to support
existing and new applications. We seek Database administrator to assist
in
development of these systems, and maintenance
of their underlying data sets.
Primary responsibility of the position(s) will be to develop and manage
Arc/Info databases containing spatial data,
text, and images for intra-net/Internet use by the county. Additional
responsibilities will include data automation,
preparation of maps, and writing AML and Avenue code to implement
habitat
models and user interfaces. Experience with
networks and development of client-server. Intranet/Internet
applications
developments will be complementary to NDIS's
Internet applications (that will be available in a public area).
 
Qualifications: BS in computer science or related field & at least 2
years
experience in computer application programming
and/or application system design and thorough knowledge of Arc/Info
software. This should include at least 1 year programming
experience programming in Visual BASIC, MS/ACCESS, & SAS/MS SQL Server
experience with ERDAS and programming in AML and Avenue
will be especially valuable. Experience in Java, HTML programming and
support for ESRI. Preference given to candidates with
experience in development of applications delivered over the Internet
Familiarity with PC-based data management & telecommunication
devices, and in database software development required.
 
Salary range: 29 - 36K annually (depending on experience) with benefits
and
generous vacation.
