Dear Angie,

Thank you very much for your offer of
help. Below, please find a revised copy of the
query. If you would post it to the listserve on
my behalf and ask that people contact me directly, I would be very grateful.

Sincerely,
Jonathan

I am a Ph.D. student at Yale, doing a
dissertation on social and environmental change
in the highlands of northeast Cambodia, near the
Vietnam border. I'm trying to document
environmental change in part by comparing aerial
photographs and other remotely-sensed images of
my field site. The area I’m interested in is
roughly from 13º 50’ to 14º75’ N Lat and from 106º 75’ to 108º00’ E Long.

Rooting around the Geography Department of the
Cambodian government, in Phnom Penh, I found
stacks of aerial photos taken during 1958 by the
Army Map Service Corps of Engineers (I
believe). However, photos of the area I'm
working on were missing from this
collection. I'm trying to find an archived
version of these photos in the US. The
information from the map index for the photo
series is provided at the bottom of this email.

Again, I'm interested in finding the aerial
photographs (film or prints) of this project. If
you know of any historians who have worked with
the Army Map Service, or if you know of anyone
who might know where aerial photos from this
project are likely to have ended up, I would be
very grateful to you for your help. I am
currently pursuing this question with the National Archive cartographicbranch.

More generally, if there are other sources of
historical remotely-sensed data including aerial
photographs (I understand the French Colonial
Archive in Aix-en-Provence has a series of
photographs as well), I would appreciate help locating them.

Thank you very much for any help you can give me,
including any ideas about map experts or archivists who would be able tohelp.

Sincerely,
Jonathan Padwe

Of this series, I believe am looking especially
for: Sheet 34 of 78 (that is, the photos related
to sheet 34 of a 78 sheet index, I think). My
notes on the index include this cryptic
reference, which seems to have been written on
the index. I believe it refers to the index for
the entire series of photos, but perhaps refers
just to those related to my interest area (i.e., sheet 34?):
