Displaying language of cataloging in WorldCat lists and limiting searches by language of cataloging

Language of cataloging indication can be displayed in WorldCat truncated or brief lists and can also be used as a qualifier in searching. To add the language of cataloging column (CatL) for display in Connexion Client, right-click in a WorldCat truncated list. On the shortcut menu that pops up, click List Settings. Click in the box next to the CatL option to add a checkmark and click OK. Turning this menu item on will allow the language code for language of cataloging to also be displayed in WorldCat brief lists (for example, CatL:ger). Customizing the display can only be done in Connexion Client as the CatL information appears automatically in Connexion Browser.

Language of cataloging is also indexed for searching. The index label is "ll:" (el,el). You may use it in a command line search. In Connexion client, new indexes, as announced in May 2008 (see Technical Bulletin 255 http://www.oclc.org/us/en/support/documentation/worldcat/tb/255/default.htm ) will not appear in dropdown lists, but can be input manually via the command line. This information has been incorporated into Searching WorldCat Indexes http://www.oclc.org/support/documentation/worldcat/searching/searchworldcatindexes/ under the Language of Cataloging Description index.

For more information on the language of cataloging please see OCLC Bibliographic Formats & Standards (BFAS) http://www.oclc.org/bibformats/ Field 040; and for information on Parallel Records for Language of Cataloging please see BFAS Ch. 3.10 http://www.oclc.org/bibformats/en/specialcataloging/default.shtm#BCGBAEHC
