*Curator, Special Collections *

Reporting to the Director of Special Collections, this position is one
of two full-time curators charged primarily with developing collections
of rare books, printed materials, archives and electronic media. Among
the Special Collections Research Center’s (SCRC) collection strengths
are: modern architecture and design, 19^th century reform movements,
literary and artistic radicalism, popular culture, and the history of
broadcasting. (For more information about SCRC’s collections please
visit scrc.syr.edu.) Qualified candidates will possesses research
experience in at least one of these areas. Additional responsibilities
include providing advanced reference assistance, leading instructional
sessions for students, outreach to donors and faculty, exhibitions and
publications, and serving on special collections’ administrative team.

*Responsibilities*

**

·Acquiring through gift and purchase rare books, printed materials,
archives and electronic media that support SCRC’s collecting goals.

·Providing advanced reference to SCRC researchers.

·Outreach to SU faculty and students via instruction and other forms of
programming.

·Curating exhibitions of SCRC collection materials.

·Contributing content to SCRC’s semi-annual bulletin /The Courant/.

·Help to set priorities for MARC cataloging and archival processing.

·Serving on special collection’s administrative team.

·Liaison with other library selectors.

*Qualifications*

·Master’s and equivalent research experience in one of SCRC’s collecting
areas. PhD in 20^th century Americana preferred.

·MLIS preferred.

·Work experience in a special collections environment, preferably in the
area of collection development.

·The ability to work closely with collection donors from a variety of
backgrounds.

·Reading knowledge of one or more Western European language, preferably
German.

·Familiarity with archival methods of collection appraisal and management.

·Excellent writing and communication skills.

·Willingness to travel on library business.

·Evidence of or interest in scholarly publication and participation in
professional or academic societies.

·Familiarity with the rare book and manuscript trade.

·The ability to work well with others and perform in a team-oriented
environment.
