There is a really nice article by Lewis G. Wixon in this issue of Past
Place about a 1880 plat map ... I think you should all take time out of
your busy days to read it (it's not too long).

Article title: From Justice Court to Minnesota’s Supreme Court: Stearns
County’s 1880 Plat Map

Dear fellow historical geographers:

Above is the link to the latest issue of Past Place: Newsletter of the
Historical Geography Specialty Group. The focus of the Spring/Summer
2007 issue is the imminent National Meeting of the AAG in San Francisco.
It includes a link to all the HGSG-sponsored paper sessions, along with
a special focus in the Historical Geography Forum on a series of
sessions entitled 'Historical Geographies of Embodied Practice'. The
Forum principally contains an essay by Carl Griffin and Adrian Evans
offering a detailed account of the theoretical background on what
promises to be a challenging yet productive approach to historical
geography. This issue also features the second installment of
'Historical Geographical Oddities', by Lewis Wixon, which time features
a story about an 1880s plat map of Stearns County, Minnesota. And, of
course, there are the usual announcements and notices for recent and
forthcoming books in historical geography

Enjoy the read and please feel free to send feedback or ideas for future
submissions (particularly for the forum and the oddities sections) to me
at [log in to unmask]

Have a great time in San Francisco. I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Gareth John
