Dear All,

Among the thirty-eight items added to UNESCO’s Memory of the World in 2007
there are three cartographic documents of exceptional value:
the Tabula Peutingeriana (Austria), the Tabula Hungarie (Hungary) and the
Hereford Mappa Mundi (United Kingdom).

They were all described in the latest, special issue (2007/7) of 'A
Földgömb'(The Globe), the popular journal of the Hungarian Geographical
Society. (http://www.afoldgomb.hu/)

The documents are listed on this UNESCO web page:
http://portal.unesco.org/ci/en/ev.php-
URL_ID=24786&URL_DO=DO_TOPIC&URL_SECTION=201.html

Regrettably, the short description of the 'Tabula Hungarie' includes many
mistakes: e.g. the map was printed in 1528 and not from 1552...(For a
longer, and more reliable background please, check David Woodward (ed.):
Cartography in the European Renaissance, The History of Cartography, Vol. 3,
Part 2, from p.1823).

Regards,
Zsolt
