**Interested parties will need to respond promptly - this competition is
open for 1 week, closing on Friday, December 15, 2000.**

The Graphics Specialist position in UWO's Cartographic Section will vacated
by the current incumbent this month.  We are looking to fill the position
as soon as possible and hope to begin interviewing early in January 2001.
I have provided a brief overview of the position below along with a copy of

Note: While the position description specifies 5-10 years experience we

GRAPHICS SPECIALIST I
DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY

The Department of Geography is offering a unique opportunity for a
Cartographer to assume responsibility for fulfilling both the complex
cartographic and graphic needs of geography faculty members in support of
their research activities, and the publication quality custom campus
mapping needs of the university community at large. The incumbent will also
act as a joint web-master for the Geography Department site.

You possess a 4 year Honours degree in Geography or cartography, with
courses instatistics.  Your educational background is enhanced by 5-10
years' experience as a professional cartographer working relatively
independently in a professional cartographic facility.  You have an
excellent working knowledge and application of several Macintosh software
programs (including Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, map projection
software, and spreadsheet software) used to assist in the visualization of
spatial concepts and to generate final publication quality materials. You
also have a working knowledge of any geographic information system software
package, the Windows operating system, a demonstrated ability to work
creatively, accurately and flexibly under pressure, an ability to work
effectively both independently and as part of a team, and a willingness to
continually develop your skills to meet the creative demands of the
position.  Furthermore, you enjoy a challenge, you are imaginative, open to
new ideas, and you are capable of generating new approaches to the
visualization of research concepts.
