Subject:        MARBI papers of possible interest to the cartographic community

There are three papers to be presented at the Machine Readable Bibliographic
Information Committee meetings at the upcoming ALA annual meeting that may be
of interest to the cartographic community.

The first is a proposal to add a field for coordinates to the authority format.
The proposal stems from the discussion paper on the same topic that was
reviewed at the midwinter meeting.

The second paper is a discussion paper on how the MARC Holdings format can be
used and augmented for recording the holdings information of map sets and
serials. These two papers both come from work done by members of the  Map and
Geography Round Table.

The third paper is a discussion paper that explores the possibilities of adding
a field to always record the former form of heading in an authority record.
There are instances where to make the former heading a cross-reference would
confuse things although having the former heading recorded somewhere in the
record could be very helpful.
