This message is reposted from the History of London discussion group,
which despite its designation, is not a part of H-Net. The original

Subject: [h-london] Historic Parishes CD

Good morning,everyone,

I am sorry if I have sent this to the wrong address - I am not always
clear
that I reply to the group. However, I hope this reaches the group.

Details of the Historic Parishes CD are as follows:

The digitised maps cover the whole of England and Wales and are
organised by
OS sheet number. Maps contain a scanned bitmap image of the OS one inch
to
one mile. The contain the boundaries of soem 18233 places and are
arranged in
three electronic layers. Layer 1 is the OS map in grey tone sheet image,
layer
two the bondaries as solid red lines and layer 3 reference numbers that
link
places on the map to the gazetter \metadata dataset that accompanies the
maps.

Data sources are Tithe maps, published returns of the 1851 census,
drainage
maps, OS maps 1895-9, 1953-74, parochial assessment maps and county
mapping.

The CD set and manual can be bought for, I think, around £30.00. More
details CDs (there are nine to the set and I don't know if you can
purchase
separately) are £45.00 the set.
Access the History Data Service where a sample map is on view, on the
net or
Essex University on [log in to unmask]

Hope someone finds this useful.
