Rose,

It took about a 1/2 hour for this to download, but it DID.
Unfortunately, it is at a resolution that is difficult to make out details.

The underlying base map is a satellite image, and technically there
isn't any relief because that is a real-life image of the earth's
surface as opposed to someone *adding* something to the map to indicate
elevation in one or more ways. But, its become common for catalogers to
describe this as shaded relief, so there would be no harm if you did the
same.

As for depths, hypsometric tints have obviously been used, but it also
looks to me like there are lines of equal depths, or bathymetry. I
usually say in a note "Depths shown by isolines" in this case, and the
Relief f/f code for it is "k".

If you would like a sample note for all of this I would suggest:

500 Relief shown by shading. Depths shown by gradient tints and isolines.

or something similar (some catalogers prefer to use the more formal term
of "bathymetric")

Its up to you as to whether you want to say that relief is shown via
shading even though technically its not.

Hope this helps...

Paige

Can some tell me what the relief of the mountainous areas is on this
online map? I was thinking shading but could it be landform (or both)?

Thank you very much!
