Subject: help locating star charts
Sender: "Wishard, Lisa A" <[log in to unmask]>

Hi all:

I need to locate a copy of two star maps/charts that were used in a paper.
The author of the paper did not cite the maps and now needs to do so for
publication. I've looked through hundreds of astronomy,
mapping/cartography/early maps, astrology, cosmology, star atlases,
constellation, Greek mythology, art, etc. books at the University of New
Mexico and here at Sandia and have not located the images. I've picked the
brains of several folks here in Albuquerque and we are all coming up blanks.
So I'm casting my quandary out to the collective! Here are my clues:

Two maps/start charts of constellation "Sails of the Ship of Argo" (think
Argonauts)
I think the maps are from one book because the page numbering text is the
same and in the same locations on the two pages (101 and 111).
I think that the book is in English, I have a teeny-tiny bit of text on one
page and it looks like English....

Map on page 101:
Looks like it is across the gutter of pages 100 and 101. It may also
fold-out horizontally, though the image as it is reproduced in the book, may
incorporate a fold or crack horizontally across the center of the image.
The chart is round, centered on a diving fish (Xiphias) (The Ship Argo is
just to the right and down (Southeast?) of the fish and the sails are
"upside down").
At the top of the chart in a "title bar" are the words "Celestial" to the
left of the map and "Hemisphere" to the right.
The background behind the chart and the title bar is black.
There are some smaller "charts" and/or orbital charts in the top and bottom
right corners (maybe bottom left too, but I don't have the whole image).

Map on page 111:
Looks like it is across the gutter on pages 110 and 111.
The image is square.
The top right corner says "pl. 32".
The Center of the image is a big golden tureen kind of on top of a big
green, yellow, and pink serpent which stretches from the bottom left to the
top right corner.
The Ship Argo is in the bottom right hand corner with the sails right-side
up.
"Star points" in the constellations are indicated by stars that have Roman
letters next to them.
Each constellation kind of has a dotted line around it which "bounds" the
image.
The top of the image has a title bar, (I can only see the part of it) that
ends with "SETANS, URANIEA, HYDRA, FELIS".
The bottom of the image has a tile bar, (again only partially visible in the
image I have) that ends "..TA, ARGO NAVIS, AND PYXIS NAUTICA".

I will be happy to fax a copy to anyone who thinks that they might be able
to help locate.

I appreciate any help and leads on this wacky request.

Thanks,
