Subject: Rivers By Country Question

Hello All,

I’m a librarian at the University of Southern California School of Law.
Geography is not my area of expertise, so please forgive me if this
question seems stupid or outside the scope of this listserv.

I am looking for source or dataset that has the length of rivers, by
country, worldwide. In other words, all the rivers in each country
combined into kilometers or some other measurement of length. For
example, a source or dataset that allows me to select “South Africa” and
“rivers” and see the length for all rivers in South Africa (and not
include portions the part of a river that in another country) or one
that already has that information laid out in a table. I have been able
to find information about “waterways” by country, but this data includes
canals and other man-made waterways so it’s not exactly what the faculty
member needs. I’m especially interested in finding out whether any GIS
software is available that has this capability. The faculty member wants
to use this data to factor in development advantages or disadvantages
when comparing different countries in an empirical analysis.

Thanks for any help or guidance anyone can give me.

Paul
