Subject: A Map to the Rescue!!!

The following article was in today's Boston Globe about a five-year battle between the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) and residents of the North End about the location of restaurant. A retired National Park Service manager remembered an agreement about preserving open space on Long Wharf and he remembered that there was a map that showed this. The link to the article can be found below.

Headline: BRA'€™s five-year fight to put a restaurant on Long Wharf derailed by a retiree with a good memory - The Boston Globe
Date: Feb 19, 2014

The Boston Redevelopment Authority was so close to realizing its vision of a restaurant on the tip of Long Wharf that you could almost smell the fried clams. BRA officials had fought a group of determined North End residents in administrative hearings and state courts for nearly five years, spending close to a quarter of a million dollars on legal bills to get permission for a private company to build Doc's Long Wharf on the pier jutting into Boston Harbor. But it seems that BRA officials failed to heed an old map. A retired National Park Service manager remembered an agreement from the 1980s in which the BRA had promised to forever preserve the edge of Long Wharf for outdoor recreation. Now, a judge has placed the restaurant on hold.
