This position will replace our departing Bojana Skarich, who has mainly been cataloging maps and special collections Africana posters.  Her secondary assignment was at the main reference desk, but that can vary depending on the candidate's strengths.

The MSU Libraries currently has a posting for a Special Materials Catalog Librarian, Librarian I, posted on MAP (MSU Applicant Page).


Posting 9169: The Special Materials Catalog Librarian will report to the Head of the Cataloging and Metadata Services Team and will be responsible for original and complex copy cataloging of materials including maps, graphical materials and special format resources of all types in a variety of languages and subjects.  May also catalog textual print materials in foreign languages.  Creates name authority records for the LC/NACO national authority file, as needed.  Participates in the problem solving and policy making activities of the Cataloging and Metadata Services unit; serves as a resource person for library staff on rules and best practices for special materials cataloging; works with the Head of Cataloging and Metadata Services to develop local cataloging policies and procedures for special materials; shares with library colleagues relevant information gained from professional activities and uses that knowledge to improve unit operations; monitors cataloging trends and maintains awareness of emerging issues in bibliographic control; participates in library committees, task groups, and special projects, particularly those related to cataloging, metadata, and bibliographic control.  The successful candidate must be broadly focused and adventurous enough to expand or shift their range of responsibilities to meet evolving campus needs as well as participate approximately quarter-time in a secondary assignment based on the needs of the library and interests and qualifications of the librarian.  Other appropriate duties as assigned.
